Surf T-shirt “Washing Machine“

Surf // Figurative
Limited editions: 2.000 ex.

There is Hokusai in this illustration which finds an echo in the great wave of Kanagawa, literally “Under the wave off Kanagawa”, better known under the name of The Wave, which is a famous Japanese print by the Japanese painter, specialist from ukiyo-e, Hokusai, published in 1830. The graphic work of Mathilde Godard literally overwhelms us with a choice of dark shades which accentuate the heavy atmosphere of this fail surf. His character is already lost in the mass of the scroll and his landing does not bode well. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger - Friedrich Nietzsche / Philosopher.

Mathilde Godard

Mathilde, a freelance illustrator and graphic designer for several years, took her first steps in the world of fashion at ESMOD Lyon, where she spent three years of her life. After this period, she chose to return to her native region, where she worked as a bartender and saleswoman.

Her passion for fashion, popular culture, whether American or Asian, as well as her love for drawing, have accompanied her since her childhood. Currently, she combines her work in the textile trade with her career as an illustrator.

Strongly influenced by her varied professional background, Mathilde has had the opportunity to collaborate with a diversity of organizations, ranging from micro-breweries to town halls, including bars and individuals. She enjoys taking on the challenge of stimulating her creativity and breaking out of her usual style for each project that comes her way.
